What to check before buying Electronics deals

With electronics, the model number is the product. Two items with nearly identical names can be different generations with different features, so match the full model number against the specifications you actually need rather than the name in the headline.

Pay attention to condition. A listing can be new, refurbished or open-box, and the price should reflect that. Read what is included, because cables, remotes, chargers and stands are sometimes sold separately. Check the return window and the warranty in the listing before you buy, since it is worth being able to try electronics at home before you commit. For screens, compare the size, resolution and the number and type of ports. For audio and wearables, check which devices the product connects to.

Finally, compare the price against the same model elsewhere. A discount against a list price tells you little; the price you would otherwise pay tells you more. Our fake-discount guide explains how to run that comparison in a minute.

How we check prices: prices come from Walmart’s own catalog and are dated on each card; we hide any list price more than 4× the sale price. The price at Walmart is the price you pay. How we pick deals.

Electronics deals FAQ

How do I know I am getting the model I want?

Compare the full model number in the listing with the model number on the manufacturer's page. Product names are often shared across several generations.

Should I buy last year's model?

It can be a good value if the features you care about are the same. Compare the specifications side by side and check that the older model still gets the updates and support you need.
